While we are adapting the old house to our needs and the modern surroundings, we see the ravages of time and are confronted in a mysterious way with the previous owners` changes. At the same time I was able to secure the long list of people who lived in our house from the Bayreuth Archives, back to the year 1440, when the house and the streets around the Bayreuth town church were first mentioned.
Suddenly anonymity is full of holes. 570 years of German history receive a first and last name, have a profession and children, live and die. The layout of the area within the city walls has remained largely the same, relatively untouched by political events, but sensitive to fire. How did it feel when a small and smelly creek ran through the alleys? How did you fare in the Thirty Years War with all its plague, frost and famine? Almost by chance, the result is a short expedition through the city of Bayreuth, on quiet roads, away from the Wagner Festival.
